As the demand to deliver more efficient and impactful public health services intensifies, it is vital for managers to possess core skills such as strategic planning, seamless organizing, smart budgeting, and sharp performance analysis. These capabilities are key to tackling the evolving challenges and driving success in the ever-changing world of public health.
NWCPHP is now accepting applications for the 2025 Public Health Management Certificate—a program designed to help public health professionals build these core skills and become successful managers in their workplace.
Applications will be accepted through May 31, 2025, with early-bird rates available to those who apply by April 11.
The virtual, year-long program includes a one-hour orientation webinar on June 26 and an in-person kick-off week in Seattle, August 18–21. Throughout the program, scholars will take courses to deepen their knowledge of managing staff, money, and information.
Scholars will develop an integrated project that will help them incorporate and apply what they’re learning to a current workplace challenge. Past scholar projects have included developing quality improvement plans, evaluations, and business plans for an organization or program. They will work with seasoned coaches and peers from around the region to share perspectives on the material and ground the courses in real-world experiences.
The Public Health Management Certificate’s learning goals focus on skills that provide structure and consistency within an organization and are drawn from competencies developed by the Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice. In addition, scholars engage in reflective exercises, including assessments, to enhance their self-awareness and understand how unique perspectives and experiences influence their leadership practices. This program empowers scholars by equipping them with critical tools and strategies to lead, manage, and retain programs, projects, and teams.
This learning opportunity is specifically designed for mid-level public health professionals who manage teams or programs, or are ready to step into a management role. Younger professionals, people of color, and other groups frequently underrepresented in leadership and management roles are strongly encouraged to apply.
“I love working with the PHMC scholars!” exclaimed Nicole Sadow-Hasenberg, Public Health Management Certificate Coach and Faculty. “They are such committed and smart public health practitioners, eager to grow their skills and learn from each other.”
